Shopping and out goings

Supermarkets and other shops are opened as a rule from Monday til Saturday, generally they are closed for the midday, up to few exceptions. Normally in the high season the shops are opened in the coast region also on Sunday.

On the weekly markets (which are opened only in the mornings) you can find food as well as leather goods, shoes, household articles and, first of all, clothes. Here a few examples:

Siena - Wednesday (of big size)
Massa Marittima - Wednesday (of medium size)
Bagno di Gavorrano - Thursday (of small size)
Grosseto - Thursday (of big size)

Castiglione della Pescaia - Friday (of medium size)

From July to October some villages celebrate traditional festivals: typical dishes are offered and at the weekend, music groups play dance music. Often there are historic processions which remind of former events, the inhabitants wear appropriately traditional clothes.

There are flea markets and antique markets at regular intervals.

There is a multitude of restaurants and bars. The offer ranges from simple country dishes to refined gourmet meals, there is something for everybody’s taste and financial status. Advisable specialities for the Tuscany are: game and fish.

Many vineyards and smaller viticulturists sell excellent wines, which one can also taste.

You can buy cold-pressed olive oil (olio d’oliva extravergine) at vineyards, at farms of producers of the olive oil or directly at the oil mill.
